Estetik Diş Hekimliği

Veneer Crown Restorations (Porcelain Coatings)

Veneer crown is a restoration that is generally applied in the protection or  treatment of teeth, which have suffered severe material loss. This process does not harm the tooth, on the contrary, it protects the tooth and extends its life.

How are Veneer Crown Restorations (Porcelain Coatings) made?

In the first session, the tooth or teeth, which  are going to  be restored are reduced according to the applied treatment. After the detailed measurement of the whole mouth is taken, patient is sent off from the clinic with temporary restorations.

In the laboratory, zirconium or metal substructure is prepared on the model obtained from the measurement taken. The compatibility of this infrastructure prepared in the second session with the tooth and the soft tissue surrounding the tooth is checked.

Later, porcelain work , controlled in the laboratory is done. In the third session, porcelain is rehearsed, harmonization and controls are made with neighboring and opposite teeth in the mouth. The patient's ideas are also taken in terms of color and aesthetics. It is sent to the laboratory to be polished. When there is an unpleasant aesthetic, the session can be repeated.

The restoration, which is polished in the laboratory in the last session, is being checked  for the last time in the patient’s  mouth. If there is no problem, after the approval of the patient, the restoration is pasted with a suitable adhesive for the material selection.

Will I stay toothless until the veneers are made?

Until your restorations are done, temporary prostheses will be assured  to provide function of chewing  and protect teeth.

What is the difference between Metal-Backed Coatings and Zirconium-Backed Coatings?

Today, full ceramic, zirconium or metal supported ceramic crowns are preferred in the choice of veneer crown material. Metal-supported ceramic crowns have a substructure of metal alloy (white gold, titanium, chrome, cobalt, nickel) completely covered with a ceramic layer. Metal ceramic crowns can cause a gray reflection from the thin biotyped gum tissue.

The use of zirconium-supported ceramic crowns and full ceramic crowns offers many advantages over metal-ceramic crowns; Biocompatibility, high light transmittance and rarely cause allergic reactions are the main ones. All-ceramic crowns are more translucent and a better imitation of natural tooth.

What problems can be experienced after Adhering Porcelain Coatings?

After the coatings are attached, there shouldn’t be  generally  any sensitivity or discomfort. There may be a small amount of hot-cold sensitivity. However, after feeling the  pain by biting, consultating with dentist is recommended. This problem is probably caused due to the high crown and can be easily corrected.

How should I care for  my Porcelain Coatings?

Care of crowns is no different from that of natural teeth. Regular brushing, flossing, mouthwash and regular cleaning of tartar and plaque will prolong their durability.

What is the durability  of Coatings?

The durability of crowns depends on the quality of production and the oral hygiene of the patient. A patient with good oral hygiene can use a ceramic crown prepared with high quality materials according to scientific rules for 10-20 years.
